Why You Shouldn’t Blog For Money

Sooo… about two years ago I started having companies reach out to me.  Pretty cool, right?  Companies wanted me to review their products, model for their clothing stores, let them redesign my blog in exchange for a review, products or money, etc.

Awesome, although I said no to 99% of them.  I don’t want to promote and rave about products/companies that I haven’t even tried and don’t know at all and truthfully I feel like I would be lying just for money.

So why did I say you shouldn’t blog for money?… Well other than the reason I just mentioned above, it takes a-l-o-t of time.  Each post I write takes me 6-24 hours from the idea of the post to writing the content to editing it, creating pins for promoting it, etc.  So unless you are blessed to become a very, very successful blogger, the money you receive will not be worth your time.

Passion and purpose is essential when doing anything to the best of your ability and creating a blog is no different.  No one wants to read something by someone who doesn’t have a purpose behind what they are saying.

With that being said though, if writing is something you enjoy and are passionate about, then go ahed.  Create that blog!  Write, write, write to your heart’s content.

You’ll definitely find it very rewarding.  Receiving the sweetest emails, comments and Dm’s from people who actually enjoy your work is such a satisfying feeling and if it’s truely your passion the amount of likes, views, followers or money you receive will not matter anyway, so it’ll just feel like a bonus reward for your hard work/passion.

If you’re a blogger, what’s your favourite thing about blogging?

  1. I like this post, and agree. I love blogging because it is such a different interaction. I can’t believe I hear from people all around the world! And it gives me something to do with all these photos I’m taking! But that’s now how it started. Fascinating to see how my focus changed as I found a bit of a groove. Fun to do what I want, be creative, get some feedback and get ideas from other blogs and photos. A way to let the creative side of me come out. To learn and share at the same time! 🙂 ❤ …with no pressure, just fun.

  2. “Passion and purpose is essential when doing anything to the best of your ability and creating a blog is no different.” This is so true! 🙂 I completely agree with this post. I’ve only had a few companies reach out to me on Dreaming of Guatemala, but they didn’t match what my blog was about, so I said no to all of them. The work involved to make money while blogging isn’t worth it (at least to me), because it goes from being a fun hobby to a stressful, money-making hobby, which takes the fun out of it.

My favorite thing about blogging is getting to be creative with designs and the posts I write! ❤

  3. Hi, I didn’t even know the word ‘blogger’ when I first posted on WordPress .
To me it was a suggested forum for meeting like minded and sharing what i already was
    writing on my own.
Only now, I had more friends and critique. Both so valuable.

  4. Back in the day there was discussion on YouTube in beauty community about sponsored content. Some YouTuber have a rule they disclose to the company that the review is going to be a true review. Some company back out, some play along, some fake to play along to not let the video be uploaded when it’s done. Being a blogger you have a great power of deciding on who you work with.

  5. I honestly agree with your post…Grace. It is nicely said and is nothing short of reality.

My favorite thing about blogging? I think I have favorite thing(s)…🙈🙈🙈…i’d share them…
My first fave thing is the excitement that comes with an idea or an event in my head.
Next is the thrill and adrenaline rush that comes with having to put the post together.
And last comes, the satisfaction and joy of seeing the dream in your heart; a reality on screen, blessing lives and touching souls.
Its such a beautiful process, i’m so glad to do.

  6. Hi! I just came across your blog! I love this post. I’ve been seeing a lot of other bloggers trying to reach out about how THEY make $50k per month blogging and they’re advertising their classes so other people could learn how to do the same…. but honestly, is that even realistic? If we’re focused on making money, we’re losing the purpose of why we started in the first place! My favorite thing about blogging is Im not afraid to speak my mind, can share my passions and connect with others 😁

    1. Aww, thank you. I certainly agree! Even though I do believe it can be possible to make a decent amount of money out of blogging, for the majority of people, I think it is unrealistic. Hope you have a beautiful day, Grace. Xx
